In 1950, Louise and Walter Arensberg donated their collection of Marcel Duchamp's artwork to the The Philadelphia Museum of Art, creating the most extensive collection of the artist's work in the world. As the museum undergoes a Frank Ghery-designed renovation, Duchamp's work will be traveling to venues in Japan, South Korea and Australia over the course of 2018–2019.
The Philadelphia Art Museum approached Darling Green and asked us to design exhibition concepts for the Tokyo and Seoul venues. The traveling exhibition, called The Essential Duchamp encompasses each phase of his career and provides historical and biographical context to the work of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
Our holistic approach to the exhibition concept included density studies, typographic concepts, exhibition furniture designs and color schemes for the upcoming shows.
